an Overview of the Project
My project was about an embroidery art that was originated from Vietnam. I first learned about the art's presence during a conversation with my dad when I was in middle school. I was fascinated with it ever since. That was the reason why I wanted to do a research about it.
Basically, double-sided embroidery is an advanced technique for sewing on fabric. Instead of using oil paints to paint on a paper canvas, people use different colors of threads to create an art piece on fabric. They can create a landscape painting or a portrait painting using threads and a needle, and it can be viewed on either side of the cloth. Surprisingly, some artists can create three dimensional portraits too.
In reality, double-sided embroidery art isn't very popular in Vietnam because the art pieces are very expensive. Additionally, people put a lot of effort and patience into making them. It usually takes up three months in average for an artist to sew a small piece of artwork on a piece of fabric.
